Fly Control in Beirut, Lebanon

Treatment for kitchens, restaurants and homes across Beirut, Metn, Baabda and Keserwan

Fly Control for Homes, Kitchens and Food Premises

A fly loose in a Beirut kitchen has already done its growing somewhere else, in wet organic material a few metres away, so swatting buys you the evening and little more.

Finding that material is the real work, so a GRMC visit begins at the drains, the bin store and the back door.

Small flies and house flies are two different problems

Small flies that breed indoors

Drain flies, the fuzzy ones that hop across a tile near a gully, breed in the film inside floor drains and grease traps, so a spray clears the adults while the pipe releases another batch within days.

House flies and blow flies from outside

The larger flies arrive from the bin area, the delivery door and the roof. A cluster of metallic blow flies in one room means a dead animal in a wall or ceiling void, where rodent control takes over.

How pest control licensing works in Lebanon

Pest control in homes and businesses is licensed by the Ministry of Public Health, through the Directorate of Health Prevention and its Sanitary Engineering Service, under conditions set by Decree 5100 of 12 April 1982. Agricultural pesticide work sits on a separate track under the Ministry of Agriculture, and the two licences are not interchangeable.

Lebanon keeps no public register of pest control companies, so a customer can only ask which ministry issued the licence and see the certificate. The Ministry of Public Health has banned aluminium and zinc phosphide for pest control in residential and populated areas nationwide.

Fly pressure in Beirut follows the collection calendar

Indoors, fly numbers track how long the rubbish has stood downstairs more closely than the season, and collection suspensions keep recurring across Beirut, Metn and Keserwan. The Jdeideh landfill is at capacity, its last expansion cell only buys time to the end of 2026, and the Ramco and CityBlu collection contracts expire in the same window. Long empty and damaged buildings add to it, particularly in Medawar, Mar Mikhael, Gemmayzeh and Karantina.

How a fly treatment is put together

Inspection before anything is applied

We work backwards from where the flies rest to the material they came out of, opening floor drains and checking the bin room, roof drains and balcony gullies.

Clearing what the larvae live in

Drains and grease traps are opened, scrubbed and dosed with a biological product that digests the film the larvae develop in. Bleach strips the visible surface and leaves that layer where it was, so the same gully starts producing within the week.

Treatment, then proofing

Residual product goes where the adults settle between feeds, clear of anything food touches, with baits and traps where a spray would not suit. Proofing follows with screens, door seals and fly units kept away from preparation benches. A follow-up check is part of the work, since eggs already laid hatch after the adults are gone.

Kitchens, restaurants and food shops

Small flies breeding in the floor drains, the grease trap and the mop store keep a dining room busy however often the front of house is sprayed.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

You can go back in as soon as the treated surfaces are dry, and we point out which ones those are. Tell us beforehand who is in the property, including children, pets and anyone pregnant or asthmatic.

Leaving is not usually necessary for fly work in a home, and we will say which rooms to stay out of. One bad drain is quicker than a full kitchen.

A can of insecticide reaches whatever is airborne and nothing still developing in the film lining a drain or the sludge under a bin. Until that material is treated, a fresh batch emerges every few days.

Empty the bins, clear access to the kitchen, the bin room and the balcony drains, and note where the flies gather. Skip the bleach, since a drain scrubbed that morning tells us nothing.

It depends on whether the breeding site is inside the property or outside it. A drain or bin area we can reach is dealt with on the visit and confirmed at the follow-up check. An outside source needs a programme with proofing.
