Pest Control Advice for Lebanon

Guidance written for Lebanese homes and businesses

Everything here is written for the pests that actually turn up in Lebanese kitchens, roofs, balconies and shops, and for the conditions that drive them. Advice written for another country points you at pests we do not have, in seasons that do not match ours, with products our local populations no longer respond to.

The local calendar matters. The tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is established along the humid western slope up to roughly a thousand metres and stays active from late April into December, peaking in July and again in early October, while the dry Bekaa sees very little of it. Rodent and fly pressure follows the rubbish collection calendar instead, so a suspension anywhere in Lebanon brings complaints within days, whatever the month.

Much of what circulates online is simply wrong for Lebanon. House mice sampled here for a 2022 study in Scientific Reports carried Vkorc1 resistance-linked mutations in 58.3% of cases, which is why supermarket anticoagulant blocks so often sit untouched for weeks. Drywood termites are the species documented in Lebanon, including specimens collected in Beirut, so a termite problem here usually sits in roof beams, shutters and furniture rather than under the floor.

Household pest control in Lebanon is licensed by the Ministry of Public Health through its Sanitary Engineering Service, under Decree 5100 of 1982, while agricultural pesticides sit on a separate track under the Ministry of Agriculture. There is no public register to search, so ask any company to show its certificate and read which ministry issued it. The Ministry has also banned aluminium and zinc phosphide for pest control in residential and populated areas.

The service page for each pest answers the practical questions for that treatment: safety around children and pets, how long the visit takes, what to move first, and why some jobs need a second visit. Anything left over, put it to us on +961 3 265900 or at hello@grmcpestcontrol.com.
