The urgent calls are the ones with a person at the end of them, or with food that is about to be served.

- A honeybee swarm on a balcony rail or a tree, which is collected and rehomed rather than sprayed.

Other things feel alarming at eleven at night and lose nothing by waiting. One cockroach on a bathroom floor, ants along a counter, a mosquito in the bedroom: none of them change overnight, and rushing the cockroach case makes it worse, because spraying a German cockroach population scatters it into the wall voids and turns a one room job into a whole flat.
Ask which ministry licensed the work
Household pest control in Lebanon is licensed by the Ministry of Public Health, through the Sanitary Engineering Service, with the technical conditions set by Decree 5100 of 12 April 1982. Agricultural pesticides sit on a separate track under the Ministry of Agriculture, and the two licences are not interchangeable. There is no public register to look a company up in, so the only way to check is to ask to see the certificate.
This matters most at night, when people accept whoever answers the phone. The Ministry of Public Health has banned aluminium and zinc phosphide for pest control in residential and populated areas nationwide. How an urgent visit runs

We ask enough on the phone to tell a today job from a tomorrow job: what the pest is, which room it was in, whether food is prepared nearby, and whether anyone at home is asthmatic, allergic to stings, very young or unable to leave the flat easily. A hornet nest at a doorway and a single cockroach in a bathroom deserve different answers.
Treatment matched to the pest and the room
The method changes with the species and with what the room is used for. German cockroaches in a kitchen are baited rather than sprayed. Rodent work starts with the entry point and the run rather than with bait, partly because a 2022 study in Scientific Reports that sequenced Lebanese rodents found Vkorc1 resistance-linked mutations in 58.3% of the house mice tested, which is why anticoagulant bait from the corner shop so often stops working here. A hornet nest is treated at dusk or early morning while the colony is inside it, then removed so the cavity is not reused.
What happens afterwards
The technician goes through what was applied and where, and how long to keep children and pets off the treated surfaces. Bed bug work needs a second appointment, timed to the hatching cycle, because eggs survive the first treatment. Rodent work needs the gaps sealed, otherwise the next animal uses the same route in.

It is safe when the right product is used and you keep to the re-entry time you are given on the day. In an occupied home the work goes into cracks, voids and harbourage rather than open surfaces, and gel baits go where a child or an animal cannot reach them. What is never safe indoors is aluminium or zinc phosphide, banned nationwide for pest control in residential and populated areas.
You normally leave only the rooms being treated, and only while the technician works and the product dries. Gel baiting for cockroaches or ants usually means you can stay in the flat throughout. A sprayed room, or a bedroom treated for bed bugs, stays shut for the drying time you are given, which varies with the product and the ventilation. Tell us in advance if there is a newborn, a pregnancy, an asthmatic or someone bedbound at home, because it changes what we choose.
Clear access to where the pest is living and leave everything else alone. For cockroaches, empty the cupboard under the sink and the space behind the fridge and the cooker, and resist spraying anything yourself, because supermarket aerosols scatter the population and slow the baiting down. For bed bugs, strip the bed and bag the linen for a hot wash, but do not drag mattresses, suitcases or clothes into another room, since that is how a clean room becomes an infested one. In every case, put food away, move pet bowls and bedding out, and cover fish tanks and bird cages.
